In reply to: Craig posted an update @princesscaffein how is your challenge coming along- discovered any sci fi worth shouting about? View8 movies, 7 books- although I think I’ll count American Gods as two books because of the length of it! I completed my minor and I reckon that (if you can fit them in!) you would enjoy The Graveyard Book and Coraline, both by Neil Gaiman. They are technically kids books but I love them and the supernatural elements might appeal to you

‘MINOR’ COMPLETE
So, the challenge was to read “three or more works by a particular creator” and I chose Neil Gaiman. I started with Coraline, which I had picked up at the Edinburgh book festival talk that Gaiman and Chris Riddell gave last summer. It’s a story I am already familiar with as I love the movie. The book is also excellent,…[Read more]

The long bus journeys to and from work have meant that I’m getting through books at a nice pace
My book of the month has to be “The book of lost things” by John Connolly, a wonderful story about the imagination of childhood and the difficulties of growing up that rifts on classic fairy tales and modern poems in an innovative fashion. I’ve made…[Read more]

January got off to a slow start on the film front with Hogmanay, the post-new year sluggishness and a trip to England meaning that I didn’t get to the cinema until the 21st! However, I soon made up for it with four films in eight days- Django Unchained, Les Miserables, Gangster Squad and Lincoln. I would thoroughly recommend Les Mis, Django and…[Read more]

hi Nilla, thanks for the friend request
Good luck for your fifty-fifty challenge! Have you settled on a major and minor, and is there any books or films you would reccomend to me?

hi Maggie-
well, sci-fi and supernatural is quite a big area! Do you like your space operas, or dystopians, or…
anyway: for my “major” I am going to read novels and short stories by Phillip K. Dick so I’d […]

@craig not quite. I have a few I’m interested in reading, once I get to them I will let you know. I’m now 8/50 I believe how is your challenge going?

I finished February 10/50 books only 4/50 movies :(. I was browsing Chapters website the other day, and came across some Neil Gaiman books I really want to read, as well as books by Andrzej Sapkowski(his books stemmed into the video game The Witcher). I also will be starting some sci-fi this month, so I will let you know how that goes.
