I’m going through Ann Patchett’s The Getaway Car: A Practical Memoir About Writing and Life. I loved her memoir Truth and Beauty, and am going to read Bel Canto next. What else do people recommend? I love reading about the writing life.

I just finished Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird. I thought it was brilliant, so I recommend it. :)

I’ve just finished re-reading Rilke’s “Letters to a Young Poet” in its latest iteration/translation (Charlie Louth, translator; Lewis Hyde, introduction; Mar. 2013, Penguin). Not a book on craft so much as on the necessity of solitude and on faith in one’s own vision/self rather than on the opinions of others. Beautifully translated and very inspiring. Highly recommended.

Oh I love Letters to a Young Poet, I’ve given that out to friends more times than I can count!
